Bayala
Private Safari Lodges
Welcome to your Big 5 Safari Experience
A leading private game reserve in Zululand
Kwazula-Natal (KZN)
Bayala Private Safari Lodges are situated within Zuka Private Game Reserve, a big 5 reserve just 3 hours north of Durban South Africa, in the ancient kingdom of Zululand. Zuka is the cornerstone property of a pioneering land assembly founded in 2001. Today, over 20 years later, this progressive rewilding project has thus far expanded to 10,300 hectares of environmentally restored and protected northern Zululand and stands as a beacon of light as to what is possible on our planet.
The reserve supports stunning biodiversity across a variety of ecosystems with elephant, black rhino, white rhino, lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra and myriad species of bird, mammal, reptile and insect.
Family-friendly and affordable, Bayala welcomes guests to Founders and Safari lodges, two lodges in close proximity. Each lodge has 24 rooms offering all the essential comforts. At Bayala life is lived with homespun finesse, and the lodges provide chic lounges and bars, dining areas both indoors and out under star-sprinkled skies, and a pool deck that keeps close company with the wilderness.
Rehabilitation of wilderness and restoration of wildlife are Bayala’s highest priorities. Guests have a privileged window into conservation-in-action and on request, subject to availability and at additional cost may participate in hands-on activities such as rhino dehorning.Green living and sustainability are also prized, and guests are invited into our earth-friendly way of life.
Join us at award-winning Bayala Private Safari Lodges for a meaningful, memory-making wildlife safari in South Africa.
Bayala proudly part of the Zuka conservation success story
Zuka Private Game Reserve is one of the three founding members of the 29,000 hectare Munywana Conservancy, sharing a boundary with the 328,000 hectare Isimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The original aspiration of Zuka to expand green frontiers and extend land under restoration from previous dereliction and deterioration, for wilderness to thrive, balanced with pioneering conservation ventures, community development and sustainability is ongoing and expanding.
